Food is great for breaking down barriers, bringing people together and promoting social inclusion.
Our community kitchen is used for a variety of events and services. It is used twice weekly by the Men’s Shed where hot nutritious meals are produced for around 20 people in each session. This helps to ensure some people who are isolated or vulnerable in the community enjoy good food regularly. It is used for one off community events and occasional activities.
In the kitchen we have provided learning experiences for people. We have provided practical informal learning experiences for community members in menu planning, food preparation, cooking, health and safety.
We use the kitchen to provide food tasting sessions using natural foods such as fruit and vegetables, introduced to children cooked and presented in ways that make them attractive and interesting. This can broaden children’s awareness and enjoyment of more fruit and vegetables.
The food grown on the allotment has been used for regular meals produced in the community kitchen.
Now you know a little about us, why not come along and see what it's all about for yourself!
